Where are you Gorman Thomas!? Mariners Fan Reminisce.

Growing up in Seattle, going to the Kingdome and watching the Mariners lose was a vivid part of my childhood. Things I distinctly remember 1) Dad buying the cheapest bleacher seats but ending up right behind the dugout or plate because the M’s did draw anybody. 2) Jim Presley picking up a ground ball and throwing it 20 rows back because he hosed it over the first baseman’s head at least twice a game. 3) Buying a cheap plastic helmet and running around the Kingdome like the little spaz that I was.
I also distinctly remember them sucking almost always. I Googled 1985 because I kinda remember that as a sucking sweet spot. I found out that, as bad as the Mariners were that year, there were some wicked Stats. For starters the Mariners were 74-88 that year. Mike Moore was a 17 game winner! (17-10) With the Mariners Wow. Gorman Thomas Jacked 32 dingers and hit exactly at the Mendoza Line .215. Awesome.
More genuine goodness. Jim Presley committed 17 errors at 3rd base.
In 1986 New Manager Dick Williams decided to go with a 4 man rotation and which included Mike Moore, Lefty Mark Langston, Sinkerballer Billy Swift and Mike Morgan. The Mariners went 65-97 that year. Normally Bad
In 1987 Mark Langston was a 19 game Winner on a 78-84 Mariner Team, Mike Moore was a 19 game loser. The M’s were almost .500 that year.
In 1988 The Mariners got Mike Schooler and Steve Trout in the picture and the rest was history. Mariners God Bless you for letting specimen’s like Digger Phelps, Steve Balboni, Alvin Davis Rake the ball over the rightfield mini monster.
I can’t substantiate this other than I have been scarred as a Mariners fan but Mike Schooler holds some kind of record for giving 4 grand slams in one season as reliever. Spectacular. Go M’s
